PetO Adoption

PetO committed to helping Sydney’s lost and abandoned pets

PetO and Sydney Dogs and Cats Home have joined forces to spread the important message about responsible pet ownership and how rewarding it can be to adopt one of Sydney’s lost or abandoned pets.

adoptionSydney Dogs and Cats Home opens its doors to 4,000 lost and abandoned animals each year from 11 council areas of Sydney, and prides itself on not placing a time limit on any adoptable animal. It is through this joint venture with PetO that the Home can ensure lost or abandoned animals find their forever home as quickly as possible.

PetO is Australia’s largest dog and cat store that believe in ‘think adoption first’ and to support their belief they assist Sydney Dogs and Cats Home by rehoming cats and in kittens in store. 100% of the adoption fee will be given back the Home which includes; the animal receiving a health check, being desexed, microchipped and vaccinated.

Nick Owner of PetO says. ‘We feel that we have the responsibility to support the work of orgainsations like Sydney Dogs and Cats Home and this exclusive partnership enables us to educate the community on the importance of responsible pet ownership and be advocates for “think adoption first”. With Sydney Dogs and Cats Home working from 11 council areas of Sydney and our stores being in the same areas, it is a perfect fit.’

Sydney Dogs and Cats Home agrees that working together with PetO is definitely a step in the right direction. Shelter Veterinarian & CEO Dr Christine Cole says ‘we aim for the best outcome for all animals that come into our care, if that is to reunite with their original owner or to suitably rehome.’ ‘It is through our partnerships that we can educate the community of what to do should their loved pet go missing and find homes for those that aren’t reclaimed. It also highlights that domestic pets can be sourced from other avenues, than from breeders. This is a win/win for all concerned.’

About Sydney Dogs and Cats Home

The Sydney Dogs and Cats Home has been taking care of Sydney’s lost and abandoned animals since 1946. In 1999, the Home evolved into a charitable not for profit organisation that prides itself on giving no time limit on any adoptable animal.

Today the Home opens its doors to around 4000 animals each year and services 11 council areas across Sydney: Botany, Hornsby, Hurstville, Kogarah, Leichhardt, Marrickville, Randwick, Rockdale, Waverley, Willoughby and Woollahra.

Being an impound facility that services the community in our council areas, means we do not refuse any animal that comes to us regardless of their temperament, medical condition or age.

Our goal is to prevent the unnecessary euthanasia of healthy, loving, domestic pets, young or old or with special needs, by re-homing them and giving them a second chance at life.

The cost of caring for these animals is covered by council for the first 7 or 14 days, depending on whether or not the animal is microchipped. Should the animal not be reclaimed, the Home relies on the generosity of a compassionate community to cover the cost of caring for the animals, while they wait for their forever homes.
