Prepping Your Pet Sitter

Whether you’re planning a trip away for a day or for a week, time away from your pet can be a stressful time for all. But it doesn’t have to be!

If you’re planning on hiring a pet sitter for the first time over the Easter break, here are our top tips on how to prepare your pet sitter and your pet to ensure a smooth transition.

Meet & Greet

Get your pet to meet your pet sitter a few days before you go away. For dogs, meeting at park may help with bonding as some dogs can get territorial at home. Or meeting in a familar place where they feel safe, like a local cafe you often frequent. A few dog treats would be handy too to start the relationship on a good foot.

Write a Report

You know what your pet loves and when they like to eat. Write a report on your pet’s routine – when they like to eat, take a walk, when they usually go to the toilet, what they like to play with and when they need to take their medication/supplements if they need it.

Keeping up with their routine will keep them happy. Make sure you have all their favourite food stocked up before you go!

Make it Fun & Familiar

Surround you pet with their favourite toys and keep a piece of clothing or two that has your scent. You can even stuff their toys with an old sock with Yours Droolly's Fill Me Up Toy. This can help soothe your pet and keep them calm when you are away. Having some interactive toys/treats around for your Dog or Cat can also keep them distracted. View the range:

If you pet is prone to anxiety, Vitapet Tranquil treats can help or Adaptil for dogs and Feliway for cats can help to keep them calm.

The Important Stuff

Don't forget to check if your pet's flea, tick & worming treatment is up to date. Keep a copy of your vet’s details and emergency contact in a handy place in case you can’t be reached. Now you can relax and be assured that your pet is in good hands.
