The “Feline Five” Cat Personalities
According to scientists at the University of SA, cats fall into certain personality types called the 'Feline Five'. Knowing your cat’s type can help you make the best decisions for your cat, whether it is controlling their environment or supporting their personal traits to ensure they are living their best life.
What’s Your Cat’s Personality Type?
1. Anxious
Does your cat display anxious behaviour – running away when visitors arrive, fearful and a little shy? Make them comfortable with lots of hiding places they can call their own such as tunnels, boxes or cat trees. Over time, they can slowly begin to become more confident by learning they are in a safe environment.
2. Outgoing
Cats are curious creatures and some are more energetic than others. If your cat is extremely active, ensure they receive lots of mental stimulation by providing them with plenty of toys to keep themselves busy. They may also enjoy going outdoors so make sure they’re fully protected from parasites.
3. Dominant
Some cats like to show you who’s boss! In a multi cat household give them their own space and independence. Be sure to have separate food and water bowls, as well as their own litter tray if you have a more dominant cat.
4. Impulsive
Your cat may seem spontaneous but could actually be reacting to stress. Similarly to anxious cats, keep them calm by making them feel safe in their own environment. Don’t forget to secure your cat when taking them out to the vet and keep them entertained with interactive toys.
5. Agreeable
These cats are just easy going, friendly to people, playful and affectionate. Just keep them happy and healthy with a well-balanced, high-quality diet and spoil them silly!
